RELATE

making science communication a conversation

RELATE (Researchers Expanding Lay-Audience Teaching and Engagement) is a lay-audience communication training and outreach program for STEM graduate students at the University of Michigan.

Community Partners

Practice is an integral part of learning science communication skills! RELATE hosts a series of community outreach events for our Summer Workshop participants to practice their communication skills in public venues with live audiences.

RELATE is proud to partner with Nerd Nite Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History (UMMNH)

Nerd Nite Ann Arbor

Nerd Nite features three fantastic community speakers one Thursday each month at LIVE in downtown Ann Arbor. Speakers present on topics ranging from comic book history to the science of desire for a boisterous and enthusiastic audience. Our Summer Workshop participants take the stage at Nerd Nite to dazzle and entertain as they put their science communication skills to the test.

UMMNH hosts a Scientist Spotlight series where our Summer Workshop participants can present their research to a broad community audience ranging from children to adults at the newly renovated museum. If it's nerdy and fascinating, you can bet you’ll find it at one of our events. With topics ranging from clean energy to brain development, join us to hear what scientists are working on in your community. We hope to see you there!

MiSciWriters is a group of graduate students who focus on improving written science communication pieces. They work together to write, edit, and illustrate blog posts focused on many scientific topics. If you're interested in learning more about science or how to get involved, check out their website.
